Frequently asked questions
Whether you're printing at home, preparing files for a professional print shop like Olympic Printers, or just looking to improve quality, knowing the tips, tricks, and common pitfalls of printing can make a huge difference.
Use High-Resolution Images
Tip: Always use images at 300 DPI (dots per inch) for print. Web images (72 DPI) will appear blurry or pixelated when printed.
Pro Trick: Zoom in to 100% on your screen to preview how your image will actually print.
Include Bleeds and Margins
Tip: Add a 0.125" (1/8 inch) bleed around your design to avoid white edges when trimmed.
Pro Trick: Also include a safe zone (at least 0.125") inside the edges to prevent text or key elements from being cut off.
Use Print-Ready PDF Format
Tip: Export your files as a PDF with embedded fonts and images for best results.
Pro Trick: Avoid sending Word, PowerPoint, or low-res JPEG or PNG files unless requested—they’re not ideal for professional print.
Proof Everything (Twice!)
Tip: Print a sample at home or request a proof copy before doing a full run.
Pro Trick: Have someone else proof it—fresh eyes catch mistakes you might miss.
